What’s “Living with Water” and how does it deal with flooding?
Everyone knows that flooding creates drainage problems in New Orleans:
- Nearly five feet of water rains down on our streets, roofs, yards, and parking lots in an average.
- Heavy storms often overwhelm our drainage system, which leads to flooding. Loss of green space and natural areas also cause soil subsidence, which damages, houses, streets, water mains, and other infrastructure.
- The City of New Orleans has adopted a new approach, called Living With Water. It aims to manage more of the water within the city, improve quality of life for everyone, and create neighborhood and economic benefits. This new thinking will make the city more resilient.
